Stony desert – the first stage of Runmageddon Sahara

Friday, 15 March 2019

The first stage of Runmageddon Sahara began at 9:30 am, 12 March 2019. On that day, the starters faced the challenge of defeating the stony desert. They crossed hills, river beds and numerous, sometimes moving stones, "growing out" from the earth. - The first stage at the beginning was a bit more gritty than I thought, but thanks to that I know how to prepare for the next day. Later, we ran on stones and there we had to keep eyes in the back of our heads all the time, to put feet in a good position. I started the run calmly, so that I could run steadily, then gradually began to overtake others, until finally at about 23 km I took the lead – says Dominika Stelmach, runner-up in the long-distance mountain run. After the finished stage, the participants rested in a specially prepared complex of connected tents with kitchen and sanitary facilities, which was located at the foot of one of the largest sand dunes in Morocco. The second stage of the run is scheduled for March 13, 2019.

- I am delighted with what is happening here, what we have prepared here. On the one hand, I have extreme effort and the opportunity to test myself to the limits of my abilities. On the other hand, we have security, support from local authorities, the police and a team of professional physicians, as well as a camp as from "One Thousand and One Nights", in which we have very comfortable conditions. – says Runmageddon president Jarosław Bieniecki.
